back from Uruguay a couple days ago. I played with Terri Lyne Carrington’s group featuring Helen Sung, Katie Thiroux, and Niki Harris. Such a great time. Last day was a day off. Everyone sat at lunch for hours since we didn’t have anywhere to go. Our flight was at 12:30 at night but got delayed 2 more hours. We ended up flying through the night and ended up home in the afternoon. I loved hanging out with all these artists. Sat there at lunch talking with cats like Dwayne Burno and Xavier Davis while they told me stories about people like Betty Carter …the real stuff, the unedited version that isn’t in books! I love it! In times like these I have these surreal moments where I think this is supposedly our work?? We get to play music in beautiful lands across the country, wine dine and hang out?! That’s work? I feel truly blessed to play this music and get to hang out with other creative and open musicians. Playing a gig in Maine tomorrow with James Montgomery and many blues and rock and roll greats... looking forward to playing some dirty loud delta blues!! Variety is def the spice of life, and keeps me on my toes. And in a few days school starts back up. Our break seemed to fly by but I’m very excited to see my buddies and start up with new courses.
