I am currently sitting backstage in the dressing
room at the legendary Apollo theatre. I am performing tonight with a
bunch of wonderful musicians and people. Wycliffe Gordon, the wonderful, talented
and charismatic trombonist asked me if I would be part of this. Other
performers include, Savion Glover(The legendary tap dancer), Carla Cook, Corey
Wilcox, Niki Yasnofsky, the Temple big band a wonderful comedian and
dancers! This performance is a tribute to the old performances that happened
at the Apollo. The set up is more of a "variety show” style where lots of
performers on the bill and do get features along with combinations with other
artists. I’m really excited, I’m sure its going to be a really fun
performance and that the audience will really dig it. We went through
rehearsal/sound check today. It was amazing that all the different parts
and people could come together the day of the performance and rehearse and suddenly we have a
show! I have still yet to find the famous "log” that everyone historically
has rubbed their hands on. When I have been telling people that I’m
performing here at the Apollo a bunch of them have said "rub the log!!” I
have still yet to find the log. the crew didn’t seem to know where it was at
the moment. :-O maybe it moves around? Perhaps it’s got legs? Ha! ha!,
that would be a very special log.
